Taicang witnessed the incorporation of 1,424 new private enterprises and 4,916 individually-owned businesses, with a net increase of 5.48 billion yuan ($ 900 million) in registered capital. The city had a total of 11,817 registered private enterprises and 29,442 registered individually-owned businesses with a total registered capital of 52.96 billion yuan.

The private economy above a designated size realized a total industrial output value of 72.62 billion yuan, up 10.2 percent year-on-year, and accounting for 41.9 percent of the total. Sales income reached 68.84 billion yuan, up 8.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for 39.4 percent of the total. Pre-tax revenue reached 2.48 billion yuan, a drop of 14.1 percent, and marking a profit of 1.51 billion yuan.
